Public Safety Accreditation

CALEA triangle log with a gold feather emblem surrounding an eagle. States Campus Security Accreditation: one word in each triangle side

Monroe Community College’s Public Safety Department earned reaccreditation in November 2024 from The Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). This is the first reaccreditation for Monroe Community College’s Public Safety Department, which was initially accredited in November 2020.  The Public Safety Department is only two departments in the campus security category to be accredited and reaccredited in New York State.

The CALEA accreditation is based on an assessment of 160 individual standards, assessment from independent public safety experts, public feedback, and interviews with agency personnel to assess its effectiveness and overall service delivery capacities. The standards cover every aspect of the department's mission of campus security, including best practices standards on administration, hiring, regular annual training, patrol and investigative procedures, disaster planning, physical security systems and evidence and property, etc.

A governing body of twenty-one Commissioners determines whether or not to accredit or reaccredit an agency based on a public hearing and review of all reporting documentation.
